NCFE Food and Cookery Skills

NCFE LEVEL 1/2 CERTIFICATE IN FOOD AND COOKERY SKILLS

These vocational qualifications are designed for students who have an interest in food and cookery.

The NCFE Level 1 and Level 2 Certificates in Food and Cookery Skills are designed to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding of using different cooking techniques and methods required for further study, apprenticeships or a career in the sector.

It comprises of four units:

Unit 1 Preparing to Cook-Internally assessed portfolio of evidence

Unit 2 Understanding Food-Internally assessed portfolio of evidence

Unit 3 Exploring Balanced Diets-Internally assessed portfolio of evidence

Unit 4 Plan and Produce Dishes in Response to a Brief-Internally assessed portfolio of evidence

Students will be expected to:

• prepare and cook using basic skills

• plan and produce dishes for a purpose

• ensure a safe and hygienic environment.

Learners will also take away valuable knowledge of:

• food and its functions in the body and in recipes

• balanced diets and modification of recipes for health purposes

This course can lead to range of opportunities such as :

Nutrition qualifications, sports science, catering and hospitality, food and beverage production, chef (apprenticeships), BTEC level 2/3, Diploma in professional cookery.

Units are graded according to a Pass, Merit or Distinction
