Course Outline
GCSE Art Textiles is a vibrant and dynamic course which teaches skills such as weaving, felting, stitching, appliqué, construction methods, and printing. It give students the freedom to express themselves using techniques and materials they enjoy using. It is not only inspiring and enjoyable but equips them with the skills to continue the subject with confidence at AS, A-level and beyond.
Assessment
All assessment is done at the end of Yr11. Students must produce work for two components.
Component 1
A portfolio that in total shows explicit coverage of the four assessment objectives. Students create a portfolio showing all the necessary skills through creative samples, designs, and also their knowledge of the subject.
96 marks = 60% of GCSE
Component 2
An extended project based on a set theme by the exam board.
Preparatory period followed by 10 hours of supervised time
96 marks = 40% of GCSE
They also have the opportunity to go on trips to develop a broader understanding of textiles within the wider world to events and places such as The Knit & Stitch Show at Alexandra Palace and Fashioned From Nature exhibition at the V&A.

Post 16 progression qualifications
