COURSE OUTLINE

In Year 10 and 11 students will have the option to study towards a qualification in BTEC Sport.

The Tech award provides learners the opportunity to develop sector-specific applied knowledge and skills through realistic vocational contexts. Students will have the opportunity to develop applied knowledge and skills in the following areas:

Investigating provisions for sport including equipment and facilities to enhance sport planning and delivery of sport drills and sessions fitness for sport including fitness testing and methodology.

Students will study three mandatory components:

Component 1 – Preparing Participants to Take Part in Sport and Physical Activity

Component 2 – Taking Part and Improving Other Participants Sporting Performance

Component 3 – Developing Fitness to Improve Other Participants Performance in Sport and Physical Activity

ASSESSMENT

Components 1 and 2 are assessed through non-exam internal assessment. The non-exam internal assessment for these components has been designed to demonstrate application of the conceptual knowledge underpinning the sector through realistic tasks and activities. This style of assessment promotes deep learning through ensuring the connection between knowledge and practice. Non-exam internal assessment is delivered through Pearson-set Assignments. These assignments are set by Pearson, marked by the centre and moderated by Pearson.

There is one external assessment, Component 3, which provides the main synoptic assessment for the qualification. Component 3 builds directly on Components 1 and 2 and enables learning to be brought together and related to a real-life situation. The design of this external assessment ensures that there is sufficient stretch and challenge, enabling the assessment of knowledge and understanding at the end of the learning period.
