KS3 curriculum
The PE curriculum is designed to inspire all pupils to participate and succeed in a wide range of physical activities and sports. Students have one lesson per week as well as the opportunity to attend extra-curricular clubs and represent the academy in local and London competitions.
Each student has the opportunity to participate in minimum of six of the following sports across the academic year:
| Fitness | Athletics | Rounder’s | Cricket |
| Football | Handball | Netball | Tag Rugby |
| Gymnastics | Dance | Trampolining | Basketball |
| Volleyball | Table tennis |
Year 7
Pupils in Year 7 are given the opportunity to build on the skills acquired in KS2, however these skills are applied to different sporting contexts that can be transferred from activity to activity. Students revisit some of the key skills taught in KS2, for example, endurance, power and coordination at the start of Year 7 and then move into applying these into relevant sports.
Students are taught to use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games. They can then develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports (for example, athletics and gymnastics). Students are also given the opportunity to experience all aspects of the National Curriculum.
Students will have the opportunity to cover a wide range of sports, six from the list above, with the emphasis on development of skills and understanding the rules that govern each sport taught.
Year 8
Pupils in Year 8 are given the opportunity to build on the skills acquired in Year 7. Some of these skills are applied to the same sports in order for students to progress in that area, however there are several skills, which are applied to different sporting contexts from the table above.
Year 9
Students will have the opportunity to cover a wide range of sports, six from the list above, with the emphasis on tactical awareness for each sport taught as well as drawing on and continuing to use the focus of the previous academic years.
